I have over fifteen years teaching experience. I have worked in Nursery, Infant and Primary schools both at home and abroad. This has included work in a wide range of settings from inner city to private schools. I have three children, one of whom has a diagnosis of dyslexia - hence my involvement with dyslexia and decision to get a specialist qualification. Confidentiality is assured at all times.

"As two parents who are both dyslexic we know the value of one to one helps and we were determined to find our son the right support. Miriam has now been working with our son for the past 4 years, coordinating with his school and SENCO to support him throughout his primary education. This has meant that despite him finding it extremely hard to keep up with his pears he remains confident and happy in school and so enjoys his education.

Miriam has supported us in developing  a structured learning plan that has allowed our son to engage and actively participate in the school curriculum. Our son loves Miriam and the activities and learning she provides are fun and interactive. He especially enjoys the little rewards and incentives she gives him.

Miriam has been very supportive to us as a family, always keeping us up to date with progress and helping us with important decision about our sons schooling.

We are very thankful that we found Miriam and Dyslexia Colchester."

"We first brought our daughter to see Miriam when we found she was really struggling at School.  She had been diagnosed with dyslexia, but her teachers did not always have the resource to give her the support she needed.  As parents we felt quite concerned but did not know what was best to do.  Miriam was able to diagnose the extra help she required and provide the necessary tuition.  Since then Isabel has grown in her reading ability and feels more confident in herself.  She still has to work hard at keeping up, but where we once felt helpless, we now feel a lot more hopeful."

"X began seeing Miriam 3 years ago. This was due to the fact that, even though she was having extra help at school, she was struggling to keep up. Miriam has an amazing ability to focus X by making her lessons fun and engaging. As X has grown up her lessons have become more structured as Miriam will continually change her teaching methods to suit the stages of X. Over the last 3 years X's concentration has improved, as has her reading and overall English. What X learns from Miriam she is able to take back into school. As a result, her levels have improved. I truly believe, that if it wasn't for Miriam's input, she would not be achieving as much as she is."

"Mrs Monkcom is patient and gives me confidence in myself. When I have finished a lesson I feel like I have achieved something and that I can do it!"

"With the fair, calm and approachable manner of Mrs Monkcom our son has progressed a long way in small steps, starting from brass tacks and is still moving forward well. He is happy to attend and enjoys every lesson. The big smile and sense of achievement shows us he is being taught in a way that he understands, both short & long term. In this way she knows our son better than us and are very grateful for that. Thank you."
